Collaboration and my network

Have been watching some of the preliminary stuff and reading around the subject, which got me thinking about the importance of "my network"(s) especially if I'm sharing cognisence with them!

Is there some art in finding a balance between quality and quantity of contacts. Identifying people I trust, people I agree with (generally) and experts. So then I'm not exactly palming off their opinions as my own - more assimilating their thoughts and presenting some considered, collective wisdom...

I'm in the same headspace on this right now. I don't see how we as learners can possible tackle a course of this magnitude on our own. With 1,700+ students there will be too much discussion and incoming information to cover without a network to help filter and synthesise things with.

Besides, with learning networks and connectivism being some of the key themes to be explored in the coming weeks, it would seem quite relevant :)
